FLCL Eps 1 ~*In this episode reference is made to Gundam when Haruko put inside her vespa. ~*A reference, or a spoof, is made to the Matrix when Naota had CPR performed on him. That scene used the slow motion with the rotating camera angles just like in the Matrix. here is also a reference to MTV and Koolaid. ~*Haruko's scooter is a Vespa 180SS ~*Haruko guitar is a modified Rickenbacker 4001 bass. ~*The Vespa seen in the closing credit sequence belongs to director Kazuya Tsurumaki. ~*The "P" logo on the Harahara Haruka's Vespa is actually the logo for the band "The Pillows" who did the vast majority of the music for the series. ~*Fooly cooly (pronounced "foo-ree coo-ree") is a Japanese slang term for groping a woman's breasts.
Fire Starter Eps 2 ~*In this episode reference is made to Initial D, Robot Detective K, Neon Genesis Evangelion. ~*There is a reference to Anna Nicole. ~*The fight scene with the Medical Mechanica robot is similar to fight in the fourth episode of Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden. ~*In the second episode, Naota tells Haruko that the reason his dad acts so strange is because "He wrote an 'EVA' book a while ago." (in the English version, "He wrote a book on the deep mysteries of 'EVA.'"). ~*The show he's talking about is Evangelion. ~*First aired in Japan on June 21, 2000
Marquis de Carabas Eps3 ~*In this episode reference is made to Doraemon and Puss 'n Boots. ~*Tom and Jerry is mentioned in this episode. ~*We learn that Naota father, Kamon, is a "journalist". ~*This is the first time we see someone (besides Naota) doing Furi Kuri, Ninamori. ~*Refrence is made to the U.S.S.R., on Ninomori's red sweater ~*There is a reference to PEPSI and SONY ELECTRONICS. ~*During the dinner conversation, it was mentioned that Haruko ran over Ninamori with her Vespa. This was not accurate, Haruko in fact hit Naota, who was then sent careening into Ninamori. ~*First aired in Japan on August 23, 2000. ~*The references to "Crystal Pepsi" in the Synch-Point dub were originally references to a Japanese soft drink called Cherio. Like Crystal Pepsi in the U.S., Cherio was a soft drink that was popular for a while, but never really caught on.
Full Swing Eps 4 ~*Amarao's peculiar-looking eyebrows are represented by sheets of nori, a type of seaweed used in wrapping sushi rolls, digitally scanned into the animation. ~*We learn that Naota's favorite food is "Genetically altered fermented soybeans". ~*First aired in Japan on October 25, 2000.
Brittle Bullet Eps 5 ~*In this episode reference it made Lupin III, South Park, Adolf Hitler, and many J-pop idols. ~*This episode also mentioned some American bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimi Hendrix, Richard Gere, Rage Against the Machine, The Beatles, and Paul McCartney but he was mentioned only by his last name. ~*The scene where Haruko fights the guys in the salon mimics the work of John Woo. ~*The gun Kitsurubami uses on Canti is an anti-tank rifle, NOT a rocket launcher or bazooka. ~*There is also a reference to Block Buster Stores. ~*When Naota is talking to Mamimi by the river after the battle is over his face looks like Kenny's from South Park. ~*There is a reference to The Matrix when Haroku fight all the men in black and dodges the bullets. ~*When Haroku and Naota are going to defeat the alien, Haroku's outfit looks like a Playboy's bunny. ~*However, that's not a playboy bunny outfit, it's actually the outfit worn by Daicon's mascot, first appearing at the Daicon convention. They also use the mascot in Otaku No Video. ~*The guns Naota, Canti, and Kamon were using are not paintball guns. They are airsoft guns and they are the rage in Japan since citizens can't legally own guns. ~*First aired in Japan on December 21, 2000.
FLCLimax Eps 6 ~*The little dog looking pet that Mamimi has is also called Ta-Kunlike her ex-pet cat. ~*Hamtaro was kind of mentioned in this episode ~*Superman is noted after the Manga scene when Haruko and Takkuns family are fighting and they pan out to the house and you see Superman flying out of the Nandaba household... ~*This is the only episode where no one makes a big deal out of Amarao's eyebrows. ~*Second time the family goes into Manga. ~*Naota is seen with Amarao's eyebrows. ~*Atomsk's symbol (which appears sometimes on Canti's face during the series, and here on Naota's forehead) is based on the kanji for "adult". ~*Because this episode was too long [Adult Swim] had to cut the ending theme and credits showing Haruko riding through space on her Vespa. ~*First aired in Japan on March 16, 2001.
